Immerse yourself in Mars Base Camp; Lockheed Martin’s vision for sending humans to Mars. With the cornerstone of the missions being scientific exploration, Mars Base Camp uses available technologies to perform key science objectives from an orbital mission followed by a surface mission enabled by a reusable lander/ascent vehicle.
The path to Mars starts at the moon, with the development of the Lunar Orbiting Platform-Gateway. Positioned near the moon, the gateway allows astronauts to demonstrate long-duration operations well beyond low Earth orbit, as well as a location for Mars-class vehicle assembly and testing. Not only does the gateway act as a proving ground for technologies and operational concepts that will be needed for long duration missions at Mars, it also provides a platform for performing invaluable science on the moon.
Speaker: Danielle Richey is a systems engineer and space exploration architect at Lockheed Martin, where she focuses on defining and enabling the future path of human exploration of our solar system. She joined Lockheed Martin in 2008 and has worked on multiple projects in Defense and Civil Space, including Orion and the NextSTEP Habitat program.
