The Perley Poore adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel is set in fifteenth century Paris where the archdeacon’s evil brother Jehan (Brandon Hurst) is plotting a peasant revolt with the gypsy king. Meanwhile, Jehan’s slave, Quasimodo (Lon Chaney)- a freakish hunchback- falls in love with the young gypsy queen, Esmeralda (Patsy Ruth Miller). A love triangle is completed with Esmeralda’s love for Phoebus (Norman Kerry), a gentlemen soldier and a rouge with the ladies.  Phoebus’ gallant side is awakened by the beautiful peasant girl, and he soon returns her love. Unbeknownst to Phoebus, Jehan also longs for Esmeralda and is willing to do whatever it takes to possess her – even kill. But the hunchback will tolerate no harm coming to her, not even if it comes from his own master…
