The Betsy Hitchcock Fund
In the waning days of her life, Betsy Hitchcock worked with the Colorado Chautauqua Association to establish a generous fund for public program development. Troubled by our increasingly fractured society and attracted by the lifelong learning focus of the historic Chautauqua movement that enhances our community to this day, Betsy’s wish was to support programming that would move the social justice needle for political, environmental, and social equity causes.
Gift
In 2019, Betsy made an incredibly generous gift to support programming at Chautauqua.
The intent of Betsy’s gift was to support programming that:
- Is challenging and impactful
- Delves into complex, significant, and timely topics
- Moves the needle on political, environmental, and social justice/equity issues
- Enhances our understanding of the deeply challenging aspects of our time
- Encourages thoughtful community conversations
