A 100-year tradition, the beloved Chautauqua Silent Film Series continues with The Winning of Barbara Worth (1926). The Winning of Barbara Worth is a silent epic drama that follows Barbara Worth, an orphan raised by a visionary engineer determined to bring water to the desert of California’s Imperial Valley. As a massive irrigation project transforms the region, Barbara finds herself torn between two very different men while tensions rise over the ambitious undertaking. Featuring sweeping Western landscapes, romance, and spectacular flood sequences, the film is renowned for its grand scale and marked the breakthrough screen appearance of Gary Cooper.
