Recycling, Composting and Trash

Help us become America’s most sustainable National Historic Landmark and a zero-waste facility, by utilizing the container on the kitchen counter and the single stream recycling container located under the kitchen sink. Please do not set any waste outside your cottage overnight as this attracts animals. Instead, use the bear-proof dumpsters, recycling and composting containers throughout the park. Please review the Chautauqua map for the location closest to you.

Housekeeping picks up trash, recycling and composting materials daily. Waste bags should be removed from the containers and placed on the curb outside your cottage between 7 AM and 9 AM. Replacement bags are located under the kitchen sink and should be utilized as follows:

  • Clear bags = recycling
  • Black bags = trash
  • Green compostable bags = compost

Please contact the Lodging office – 303 952 1611 – for additional bags

Please do not set any waste outside your cottage overnight as this attracts animals. Instead, use the bear-proof dumpsters, recycling and composting containers throughout the park. Please review the Chautauqua map for the location closest to you.

Note: Information and instructions on appliances, heating, cooling etc. will be waiting for you in the cottage. For any question not covered there or here or to arrange tickets and experiences during your stay, please call 303 952 1611.
