Shot in the arctic of Alaska, “The Great Alone” captures the inspiring comeback story of champion dog sled racer, Lance Mackey. From his sunniest days as a boy by his famous father’s side to cancer’s attempt to unseat him, “The Great Alone” pulls viewers along every mile of Lance’s emotional journey to become one of the greatest dog sled racers of all time. With an endless amount of strength and determination, Mackey is the first in history to win four consecutive Iditarod races.

Iditarod runner Jorge Latre will lead a post-screening discussion.

About the Speaker:

By the screening date of this film, Jorge Latre will have competed in the Iditasport Impossible winter foot race in 2017 & 2018. The Iditasport Impossible is 1000 miles, on foot, on fat bike, or on ski. The race is largely self-supported and relies mostly on self-rescue if things turn out ugly. In 2017 Jorge was the only racer to run 600 miles of the trail to Ruby, Alaska. His firsthand (foot) experience of the trail will give the audience insight into this classic Alaskan race with dogs, as well as on foot, fat bike and/or skis.

Running time:  82 minutes
