The beautiful 1916 film adaptation “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” based on the Broadway play (1912) of the beloved fairy tale, is compiled by the National Film Preservation Foundation.

The lovely Snow White (Marguerite Clark) arouses the jealousy and hatred of Mary Jane, the ugliest woman in the kingdom who wants desperately to be royalty. Mary Jane trades her heart to a witch in return for beauty and the love of a king. She and the king marry, and Snow White is forced to work in their kitchen, where she accidently meets a man, who unbeknownst to her is a prince. When he asks for her hand in marriage, the queen becomes enraged and orders Snow White be killed. Snow White is taken to the woods to be killed but when the queen’s hunter allows her to live, she discovers the cabin of seven little dwarfs, and the rest of the story follows the favorite, well-known plot of today.
