Immerse yourself in tales of love and adventure. The evening begins with the Prelude to Wagner’s beloved opera Tristan and Isolde. From love-by-chance to star-crossed lovers, the program moves to Sergei Prokofiev’s stirring Second Suite from the ballet Romeo and Juliet. Closing out the evening is Strauss’ romantic poem for cello and orchestra, Don Quixote, based on the magnum opus of the great Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes. Soloist for the evening is cellist Desmond Hoebig, top prize winner of the Munich and Tchaikovsky competitions and former principal cellist of the Cleveland, Houston, and Cincinnati symphony orchestras.
