Brooklyn Rider

The Festival welcomes the Brooklyn Rider string quartet, “four classical musicians performing with the energy of young rock stars jamming on their guitars” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) to the Robert Mann Chamber Music Series. In this fresh and inventive program, Brooklyn Rider explores the profound healing power of music through dynamic works by composers with a wide array of backgrounds and perspectives — from Beethoven to Pulitzer-Prize winners Caroline Shaw and Du Yun to sound experimentalist Matana Roberts and many more. This passion for performing and commissioning colorful and innovative music led NPR to describe Brooklyn Rider this way: “Take two violins, a viola, a cello. Add the world.”

Program:

Gabriela Lena Frank, Kanto Kechua #2
Du Yun, i am my own achilles’ heel, a form that would never shape
