Beethoven Op. 131 + Hannah Lash’s World Premiere

Door Time: 6:45 PM

Conductor:
Peter Oundjian

Guest Artist:
Ji Su Jung, marimba

This Beethoven-infused program opens with a world premiere commissioned by the Festival and composed by the “striking and resourceful” Hannah Lash (New York Times); her new Forestallings is directly inspired by Beethoven’s Second Symphony. Continuing our look at Beethoven through another lens, we also experience Music Director Peter Oundjian’s own string orchestra arrangement of Beethoven’s groundbreaking String Quartet Op. 131; after hearing this deeply moving quartet, Schubert remarked, “After this, what is left for us to write?” Also on this evening’s program is Kevin Puts’ Marimba Concerto — marimba virtuoso Ji Su Jung returns to perform this lyrical work full of nods to Mozart.

This performance will be delivered both in person and virtually. Each in-person ticket purchase also grants access to the virtual performance. If you would prefer to attend the virtual concert only, see the full list of virtual concerts or purchase a Virtual Concerts package here.
