FILMS

Happening – November 9

Most Americans understand and accept the reality of climate change. However, the solutions seem out of reach, out of scale and fatally entwined in partisan politics. Meanwhile, the clean energy revolution is quietly underway. Electricity generated from wind and solar is increasingly more affordable than electricity generated from fossil fuels. But can we meet all our energy needs with renewable energy? Most importantly, will we do that? “Filmmaker James Redford, son of Robert Redford, chronicles his quest to answer these questions. Watch the official trailer here. Friday, November 9. 7:00 PM. Chautauqua Community House. Buy tickets online.

TALKS

Mark Bekoff: Canine Confidential – November 14

For all the love and attention we give dogs, much of what they do remains a mystery. We have a good understanding of what it means when dogs wag their tails, but what about when they sniff and roll on a stinky spot? What goes on in dogs’ heads and hearts — and how much can we know and understand? Join Marc Bekoff, author of “Canine Confidential: Why Dogs Do What They Do,” as he brings a unique perspective to the study of dogs, and leads a captivating discussion on the inner workings of their mind. Read a recent review in Bark, the dog culture magazine, here. Wednesday, November 14. 7:00 PM. Chautauqua Community House. Buy tickets online.

Jorge Latre: Mental Game Wanted for Iditarod – November 15

Join Jorge Latre, competitor of the Iditasport Race, and discover the mental game required for this impossible journey. “Only 15 runners have ever covered the entire Iditarod Trail during the winter. Only three more than have been to the Moon, and orders of magnitude fewer than have summited Everest,” said Jorge before the start of the 2018 race. Read more about his journey here.
