AUTHORS

Adam Bradley: The Poetry of Pop – November 29

“The Poetry of Pop”, by University of Colorado, Boulder professor and author Adam Bradley, is a fascinating book that reveals the poetic artistry of popular songs. Bradley traces the song lyric across musical genres from early twentieth-century Delta blues to mid-century rock ‘n’ roll to today’s hits. From George and Ira Gershwin’s “Fascinating Rhythm” to Rihanna’s “Diamonds”, Bradley dives deep into the craft of language and sound. Wednesday, November 29. 7:00 PM. Chautauqua Community House. Buy tickets online.

FILM

Monkey Business: The Adventures of Curious George’s Creators – December 1

We’re all familiar with Curious George, but what about the authors? Documentary film “Monkey Business” explores the lesser known tale of George’s authors, Hans and Margret Rey. From fleeing Nazi-occupied France on handmade bicycles to encounters with exotic animals in Brazil, the Reys lived lives of adventure that are reflected in the pages of one of the most treasured children’s book series of all time. James Erekson, associate professor of reading at the University of Northern Colorado, will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion. Watch the official trailer here. Friday, December 1. 7:00 PM. Chautauqua Community House. Buy tickets online.
