AUTHOR

Heather Hansen: Wildfire – April 11

Every year wildfires ravage forests, destroy communities and devastate human lives, with only the bravery of dedicated firefighters creating a barrier against even greater destruction. Throughout the 2016 wildfire season, journalist Heather Hansen witnessed firsthand the heroics of the Station 8 crew in Boulder, Colorado. Join her as she draws from her newest book, “Wildfire”, which discusses the science, landscape and human behavior that, year-by-year, increases the severity, frequency, and costs of extensive fires in the West. Read the five star review of the “outstanding book” here. Wednesday, April 11. 7:00 PM. Chautauqua Community House. Buy tickets online.

EXPLORER

Tad Pfeffer: Ice in the World – April 19

Glacier and ice sheet changes indicate the power and speed of environmental change, and foretell human consequences ranging from sea level rise to loss of local and regional water resources. Witnessing these changes first-hand is a privilege few of, like Tad Pfeffer, are granted. With that privilege comes the responsibility to study and understand the processes of change and to report that knowledge accurately and completely. Join Tad Pfeffer – glaciologist, geophysicist, photographer, and teacher – as he leads a discussion on the reality of climate change. Listen to a short interview Tad did with The North Face, here. Thursday, April 19. 7:00 PM. Chautauqua Community House. Buy tickets online.
