FAMILY EVENTJack and the Beanstalk – June 1 – June 30
The familiar story of “Jack and the Beanstalk” is brought to life on the trails! Arts in the Open presents the first of three hiking plays at Chautauqua beginning June 1. Audience and actors meet at the Chautauqua Picnic Shelter and take a moderate hike on the Enchanted Mesa Trail while scenes from the play are performed along the way. The approximate length of the hike is two miles with an elevation gain of 400 feet. This event is recommended for patrons ages six (6) and older. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. The lineup for our Spring 2019 event has solidified and is ready to teach, inspire, and create. Movie stars, activists, and artists? We have them. Researchers, writers, and educators? Yes, yes, yes. Authors and politicians? Indeed and on deck. The event’s theme is Within & Without which was inspired by a quote from F. Scott Fitzgerald. “I was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life.” Each speaker will filter that ethos through their life’s lens to create distinct new perspectives for attendees. Bboying, Popping, Krump, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and more- all part of what will take the stage during this year’s Murmuration presented by Block 1750. With a live score written and performed by Von Disco accompanied by soloists from the Denver metro area, live concert meets dance theater, and street dancers meet the stage. Two-time Grammy nominee and world-renowned “fingerstyle” guitarist Tommy Emmanuel will be touring alongside mandolin legend David “Dawg” Grisman. Together, they will astound audiences with their effortless compositions and improvisational skills. Throughout the night, they will perform together, playing fan favorites as well as songs off their 2017 collaboration album, Pickin’. Released on Grisman’s Acoustic Disc label, Pickin’ has amazed fans and critics alike with original Grisman songs like “Cinderella’s Fella” and “Tipsy Gypsy”.
