SILENT FILM

Hitchcock’s The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog – June 17

While the silent “The Lodger” (1927) was not director Alfred Hitchcock’s first film, it was the first to truly deserve the designation “A Hitchcock Picture.” British matinee idol Ivor Novello plays Jonathan Drew, a quiet, secretive young man who rents a room in a London boarding house. Drew’s arrival coincides with the reign of Terror orchestrated by Jack the Ripper. As the film progresses, circumstantial evidence begins to mount, pointing to Drew as the selfsame Ripper. In addition to Novello’s 1932 remake, “The Lodger” was remade in 1944 with Laird Cregar, then again in 1953 as “Man in the Attic,” with Jack Palance as Jonathan Drew. With live musical accompaniment by Hank Troy on piano. Wednesday, June 17. 7:30 PM. Buy tickets online.

Gordon Lightfoot – June 23

After 50 active years of hit song making and international album sales well into the multi-millions, it’s safe to say that esteemed singer-songwriter and musician Gordon Lightfoot resides with some very exclusive company atop the list of all-time greats. His song catalog is incredibly vast and includes such immortals as “Early Morning Rain,” “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Carefree Highway,” “Sundown,” “(That’s What You Get) For Lovin Me,” “The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald,” “Cold On The Shoulder,” “Canadian Railroad Trilogy,” “Ribbon Of Darkness,” “Beautiful,” “Song For A Winter’s Night,” “Shadows,” “Rainy Day People,” “Did She Mention My Name” and “Summertime Dream” to name just a few.
This year is special for the legendary artist. His 50 Years On The Carefree Highway tour will feature his well-known hits, as well as some deep album cuts for the die-hard fans. Tuesday, June 23. 8:00 PM. Tickets are nearly gone for this show! Buy tickets online. Ride the free HOP 2 Chautauqua to this show!

COMEDY

Margaret Cho – June 26

Beginning with her early days on the scene in Southern California, comedian Margaret Cho has always been the Agent Provocateur of stand up. Never one to shy away from a difficult, or even taboo topic, there is no subject off limits. Her socially aware brand of comedy has made her both a thought leader and teacher to those with open minds and open hearts.
An accomplished performer in all formats, Cho could be called the “Queen of all Media,” having conquered the worlds of film, television, books and theatre. She has three Grammy Award nominations for Best Comedy Album under her belt. Her tours sell out, and she’s had two shows debut Off-Broadway (“I’m The One That I Want” and “The Sensuous Woman”). Friday, June 26. 8:00 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online.  Ride the free HOP 2 Chautauqua to this show!
