MUSIC

Leo Kottke and Keller Williams – June 17

Singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Keller Williams is bringing “Shut the Folk Up and Listen” with flat-picking guitarist Leo Kottke to Chautauqua Auditorium. This very special evening of music, which will feature a solo set by each artist, finds Keller performing a rare loop-less acoustic show. Attendees can also expect spontaneous collaborations between Williams and Kottke.

Keller Williams is best known for his enviable one man show accompanied by his on-stage looping system and homemade 10-string guitar. With his upbeat, weirdly-surreal songs along with his unthreatening tenor voice, Williams is an affectionately eccentric musician.

Famed acoustic player Leo Kottke is known for a fingerpicking style that draws on blues, jazz and folk music, and for syncopated, polyphonic melodies. In concert, Kottke intersperses humorous and often bizarre monologues with vocal and instrumental selections played solo on his 6- and 12- string guitars. Friday, June 17. 7:00 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Ride the FREE HOP 2 Chautauqua to this show. Buy tickets online.

SILENT FILM

The term “silent film” is something of a misnomer since most were accompanied by an orchestra, organist or pianist to underscore the narrative on the screen. Among the most beloved actors were tragicomic superstar Charlie Chaplin, the physically-daring comedian Buster Keaton and popular leading man, John Gilbert. Join us in celebrating the silent film era during the 31st annual Silent Film Series. All shows 7:30 PM.
