SILENT FILM

Chicago – June 10

Join us tonight to celebrate 30 years of silent films at Chautauqua as we kick off the season with “Chicago.“
Produced by Cecil B. DeMille, thefilm (1927) is the first adaption of the stage play and is the first adaption upon which all subsequent musicals were based.
The story recounts the true story of Beulah Annan, fictionalized as sexy, jazz-loving and dressed-to-kill Roxie Hart. Roxie has a doting, handsome husband and a gold-digging affair with Eugene. Eugene eventually tires of Roxie’s demands for money and ends up paying with his life. Put on trial for murder, Roxie secures lawyer Billy Flynn who is equal parts mobster and publicity agent. As the press coverage of her trial goes to Roxie’s head, the courtroom theatrics begin.
Featuring live musical accompaniment by The Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra.  Wednesday, June 10. 7:30 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online.

MUSIC

Keller Williams & The Keels – June 12

The summer concert series continues Saturday with singer and songwriter Keller Williams and special guests Larry and Jenny Keel.
In addition to being considered a “one-man jam-band,” Williams creates bluegrass-inspired covers of songs across varying genres, such as Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” and Cracker’s “Teen Angst.” The balance and superb playing by the three offers a fun new take on songs that might not traditionally make you think of a bluegrass sound.
Friday, June 12. 8:00 PM. Buy tickets online. Ride the free HOP 2 Chautauqua to this show!

The Weepies – June 13

Quietly selling more than a million records since first meeting and teaming up in 2001, indie duo The Weepies  return to Chautauqua Auditorium Sunday in support of their first full length album in five years, “Sirens.” This evening of “subtly intoxicating folk-pop” music will also feature opening act The Silent War.
