The Big Parade – July 27

Featuring live musical accompaniment by The Silent Cinema Trio

Join us tonight for an epic tale of the great war starring John Gilbert as wealthy young idler Jim Apperson who enlists during the early days of World War I. Sent to the front lines in the French countryside, Jim bonds with his working-class bunkmates Slim (Karl Dane) and Bull (Tom O’Brien) and falls in love with young French farm girl Melisande (Renée Adorée). But the romance of war is soon shattered for good. This 1925 drama directed by King Vidor was groundbreaking for not glorifying war or ignoring its human costs. Watch a trailer here. Wednesday, July 27. 7:30 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online.

Ryan Bingham – August 1

American singer-songwriter Ryan Bingham’s voice is distinct – a weather beaten rasp. His voice took him on the unlikely journey from rodeo circuit rider to Grammy, Golden Globe and Academy Award winner for the title track to “Crazy Heart,” a 2009 Jeff Bridges film featuring Bingham’s original song, “The Weary Kind.” In early 2015, Bingham released his fifth studio album, “Fear and Saturday Night,” recorded mostly live with a brand new backing band. The album’s songs are stripped down, keeping the focus on the singer’s transparent voice. Listen to the new single “Nobody Knows My Trouble” here. The Americans will open this show. Monday, August 1. 7:30 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online. Ride the free HOP 2 Chautauqua to these shows!
