TALKS

University For a Day – September 28

University for a Day, presented by the Colorado Chautauqua brings together scholars, activists, experts and community members for a day of thought-provoking and engaging conversation on a singular topic of the day.

Join us on September 28, 2019 for a deep dive into The Politics of Dissent as we engage some of the most influential activists in the world in a discussion of the moral and practical stances people take in response to a variety of contemporary social issues and world events.

Joining us will be Dave Archambault Sr., former tribal chairman of the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North Dakota and outspoken activist at the Dakota Access Pipeline protests; Jeffrey Marsh, one of the world’s foremost commentators on nonbinary identity and activism in America, with a message of positivity and inclusion and a deep knowledge of queer issues and history; the Reverend Osagyefo Uhuru Sekou, a modern-day civil rights activist whose frank discussions about black America’s fight for racial justice have gained him notoriety across the country; and Nadya Tolokonnikova, a Russian conceptual artist, former political prisoner and co-founder of the artist collective, Pussy Riot.

Ms. Tolokonnikova’s evening presentation will cap an engaging, enlightening and elevating day of community dialogue and reflection. Join us for this one-of-a-kind event! Saturday, September 29. 12:00 PM. Colorado Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online.

MUSIC

Toots & the Maytals with Selasee & the Fafa Family – July 29

Toots is one of the true architects of reggae – so much so that “Do the Reggay,” a 1968 single by Toots and his group, the Maytals, is credited with giving the genre its name. Classic songs written and recorded by Toots and the Maytals have been covered by the likes of the Clash and the Specials, and the group was featured in reggae’s greatest breakthrough event – “The Harder They Come,” the 1972 film that became an international sensation.

Don’t miss Toots & the Maytals and their breathtakingly powerful performance. Monday, July 29. 7:30 PM. Colorado Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online.
