Peter Kater & R. Carlos Nakai – July 18

After recording many successful solo projects, R. Carlos Nakai and Peter Kater began collaborating together in 1989 with their first recordings, “Natives” and “Migration.” Several million CD sales and 21 combined Grammy Award nominations later, the release of their recent “Ritual” recording has put them back on the road performing their unique hybrid style of innovative contemporary instrumental music.

Of Navajo-Ute heritage, R. Carlos Nakai is the world’s premier performer of the Native American flute. Nakai brought the flute into the concert hall, performing with over fifteen symphony and chamber orchestras and in cross-cultural forays.

Ten time Grammy Award nominee Peter Kater is a multi-platinum selling pianist composer who has released over 60 recordings and scored many projects, including over 100 TV, film and Broadway productions.

Week 3 – Cellobration Mini-Festival
Join CMF for a week-long mini-festival featuring the cello, which cellist Zuill Bailey calls “the most perfect instrument aside from the human voice.” The four performances feature two marathon chamber music concerts, a festival orchestra concert, and a chamber orchestra concert (at First Congregational Church), and include soloists Bjorn Ranheim, Guy Fishman, Julie Albers, and Desmond Hoebig. People on Sunday – July 22

Hailed as a work of genius, the 1930 “People on Sunday” (“Menschen am Sonntag”) is notable not only for its portrayal of daily life in Berlin shortly before Adolf Hitler became Chancellor, but also as an early work of future Hollywood writer and director Billy Wilder. The film is an effervescent, sunlit silent about a handful of city dwellers enjoying a weekend outing. It is a unique hybrid of documentary (the actors were amateurs whose day jobs were those that they portrayed in the film) and fictional storytelling, and the lightly scripted work became a surprise hit. Attending a concert at Chautauqua this summer? Enjoy a complete Chautauqua experience and consider staying overnight in one of our charming cottages.

Check in at 4 pm. Enjoy happy hour or a pre-concert meal at the Dining Hall, or in the privacy of your cottage’s porch, then stroll over to the Auditorium for a show. Afterwards, sink into your cozy quarters for a restful night’s sleep and hit the trails in the morning for a hike before checking out.

Picnic at Chautauqua!

Summer is picnic weather and there’s no better place to picnic than at Chautauqua! The Chautauqua General Store has pre-made, takeout picnics for two to four people. Picnics include an assortment of sliced and cured meats, artisanal cheeses, house picked vegetables, pasta salad, stone ground mustard, house-made compote, non-alcoholic bottled beverages and choice of dessert item. Price is $21 per person and bags must be prepaid in full. Bags can be reserved in person at the Chautauqua General Store or online here. 48 hour pre-pick up reservation required.

ADA accessible restroom project

The ADA accessible restroom project, managed and funded by the City of Boulder, is nearing completion! The building will feature six stalls with ADA accessible accommodations for both men and women and be open seasonally in conjunction with the Auditorium schedule.
