AUTHORS

Helen Thorpe: Soldier Girls – May 5

Author and journalist Helen Thorpe’s compelling novel “Soldier Girls” was recently named the number one non-fiction novel of 2014 by TIME Magazine. The story focuses on three women who signed up for the Army National Guard before 9/11, envisioning a part-time commitment, only to wind up serving year-long deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Helen will describe the women and their struggles in a personal way – why they enlisted, how they felt about their deployment orders, how they survived two deployments and the difficulties of two transitions back home.
Tuesday, May 5. 7:30 PM. Chautauqua Community House. Buy tickets online.
