Joey Alexander – September 9

An extraordinary and uniquely gifted pianist from Bali, Joey Alexander’s recording debut “My Favorite Things” was nominated as Best Instrumental Jazz Album for the 2016 Grammy Awards making him, at 12 years old, one of the youngest Grammy nominees in history.

Joey Alexander taught himself to play piano and due to the lack of jazz education, Alexander began attending jam sessions with senior musicians. Through festival appearances and his improvisational brilliance, the world has taken notice of this phenomenal pianist with the astonishing technique and soulful sound. Dawn and Hawkes – October 7
Austin-based singer-songwriter duo Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawkes climbed to #25 in Billboard’s Folk chart and landed at #2 in iTunes Singer-Songwriter albums with their debut album, “Golden Heart.” Their success kicked off a whirlwind of cross-country touring, co-writing and even a run on NBC’s “The Voice.” Listen to Dawn and Hawkes here.

Venus Cruz – October 21
Winner of Westword’s 2012 Best R&B Vocalist Award and host of the “Jazz Odyssey” on KUVO 89.3FM, Venus Cruz’s improvisation and soulful delivery transcend genres. This intimate concert will feature Venus performing original compositions as well as modern takes on classic jazz standards. Watch Venus Cruz here.

Jimmy Weber – November 4
Jimmy Weber recently retired from active duty after 24 years of service with the U.S. Air Force. A former member of the U.S. Air Force Band, he deployed around the world five times, bringing comfort and hope to our service members.

During his illustrious music career, Jimmy Weber has shared the stage with country music royalty including Kenny Rogers, Tim McGraw and Rascal Flatts and opened for Rodney Atkins, Sara Evans, and the legendary Beach Boys. Jimmy’s Chautauqua performance will feature his originals, as well as selections from Johnny Cash, George Jones and classic rock and roll. Veteran Speak event.

Biff Gore: Holiday Soul – December 17
Powerful, soul-singing blues and R&B songwriter Biff Gore returns to Chautauqua to add soul to the holidays. Biff’s rich vocals have led music industry leaders to distinguish him as “The Ambassador of Soul.” Most recognized as a contestant on season 6 of NBC’s “The Voice,” Biff will be accompanied by fellow contestant Noah Lis. Andy Goessling of Railroad Earth – January 12
Andy Goessling, a founding member of the Americana band Railroad Earth, plays acoustic guitar, mandolin, dobro, banjo, reeds, penny whistle and recorder. His career has been long and varied as a part the acoustic, folk and bluegrass scenes. Andy has supported artists such as Garnet Rogers and Rick Danko, and has played with Warren Haynes, David Bromberg and John McEuen, and Grateful Dead members Phil Lesh and Bob Weir. The Freewheel Trio – February 10
The Freewheel Trio is a contemporary string band based out of Denver, Colorado. Through shared experiences in bluegrass, old-time, classical and American jazz traditions, the Freewheel Trio is committed to versatility, both in instrumental approach and musical traditions. This versatility fosters a close connection with audiences and a unique style. Listen to the trio here.

Jeff Black – March 24
Jeff Black is a master songwriter and performer in the tradition of the great storytellers. His songs have earned Grammy recognition, radio chart-topping stats and numerous Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) awards. Flying below the radar as a performer, his repertoire of songs have been cut by artists as diverse as Alison Krauss & Union Station, Waylon Jennings, Dierks Bentley, John Oates and Sam Bush. California Guitar Trio – April 30
The universe of guitar knows no boundaries for the California Guitar Trio (CGT). Since 1991, the group has enthralled listeners with a singular sound that fearlessly crisscrosses genres and explores the intersections between rock, jazz, classical and world music. The trio’s music has made a universal impact having served as the soundtrack for Olympics coverage, and NASA used their music to wake the crew aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour. Watch CGT here.

Cleo Parker Robinson Dance: Relativity – September 10

Launching its 46th anniversary season, the internationally renowned Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble (CPRD) returns to Chautauqua Auditorium for a fourth season with powerful and evocative choreography. The evening features two seminal CPRD repertory works: the world premiere of the Afro-Mestizo inspired work, “MictlanRx,” and a performance of “Bamboula: Musicians’ Brew.” Enjoy a preview of “Bamboula: Musician’s Brew” here.
