MUSIC

Keb’ Mo’ Band – August 10

For those who have yet to experience his live show, there is a smooth cadence that transports you to a simpler time in life. Without even realizing it, you will find yourself humming along, dancing and laughing as the true “slice of life” vibe shines through. Because, after all, “Life is Beautiful,” truly. Watch and listen to “Life is Beautiful” here. Wednesday, August 10. 7:30 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online. Ride the free HOP 2 Chautauqua to this show!

David Grisman Sextet – August 12

David Grisman is a bluegrass mandolinist and acoustic composer with a long history of expanding the genre’s musical boundaries to include jazz and world music. Beginning his musical career in 1963 as a member of The Even Dozen Jug Band, Grisman was affectionately nicknamed, “Dawg” by Jerry Garcia, with his mixture of bluegrass and Django Reinhardt-Stéphane Grappelli-influenced jazz: later becoming known as “Dawg Music.” These early fusions with Reinhardt-era jazz began the formation of the genre known today as newgrass. Playing original “Dawg” compositions, the sextet includes Jim Kerwin (bass), Matt Eakle (flute and bass flute), George Marsh (drums and percussion), Chad Manning (violin, viola and mandolin) and George Cole (guitar). Listen here. Friday, August 12. 7:30 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online. Ride the free HOP 2 Chautauqua to this show!

Melissa Etheridge – August 16

Don’t miss Melissa with her band for a night of old favorites and new material! Melissa Etheridge’s new album, “MEmphis Rock and Soul,” (Oct 2016) is a tribute to the rich history of classic southern soul, including songs recorded by Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, The Staple Singers, William Bell and more, plus new, original verses written by Melissa. Listen to Melissa’s fierce take on a Sam & Dave standard “Hold On, I’m Coming” here. Tuesday, August 16. 7:30 PM. Chautauqua Auditorium. Buy tickets online.
