The show will explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission: to use the power of film\, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. \n \nFilms:\n\nSUMMER IN THE CITY\nMichael Brown \nOn a hot summer afternoon\, two friends attempt to ride every inch of Salt Lake City and the surrounding trails on their mountain bikes. \n\nTHE FIRST WOMAN EVER TO DROP AT RED BULL RAMPAGE\nSatchel Cronk \nWhen Robin Goomes learned she’d be competing in the 2024 Red Bull Rampage\, an invitation-only freeride mountain bike competition\, she set her sights on victory. Follow Goomes as she navigates the brutal demands of crafting and testing her line\, and pushing her limits before making her final drop into the most challenging event of her career. \n\nSHIFT THA CULTURE\nMalik Martin \nShift Tha Culture follows pro snowboarder Zeb Powell on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and cultural impact. Set against the backdrop of Burton’s annual Culture Shifters event\, the film explores Powell’s evolving connection to his Black identity and his mission to bring diversity to the mountains. Through his unique position as a trailblazer in snowboarding\, Powell uses his platform to challenge norms\, foster inclusivity and inspire a new generation to reimagine what’s possible in outdoor spaces. Blending powerful storytelling with stunning visuals\, Shift Tha Culture is a celebration of community\, resilience and the transformative power of representation. \n \nMAGIC HOUR – SEGMENT\nTodd Jones \nAlaska is the ultimate heli-skiing playground\, and Cordova’s Points North Heli is the spot for untouched powder. Magic Hour follows Griffin Post and Michelle Parker as they hit massive lines during an epic spring. \n\nANNIKA — WHERE SHE LANDS\nMichael Schwartz \nAnnika Malacinski is chasing more than just a podium — she’s fighting for equality in her sport. Where She Lands follows the U.S. Nordic Combined skier as she pushes the limits of what’s possible\, balancing the relentless pursuit of excellence with the weight of a larger battle. As she fights for women to have the same Olympic opportunities as men\, the film captures an athlete at a crossroads — determined to leave her mark\, no matter where she lands. \n\nROGATKIN\nKeenan DesPlanques \nMullet\, no visor\, fired up and spinning like a top\, Nicholi Rogatkin is a slopestyle mountain bike rider like no other. His fearless approach and innovative tricks have redefined what is possible in the sport. Rogatkin has been competing for over 20 years\, and he’s still on the rise. He’s the ultimate hype man\, and if the world could figure out how to harness Rogatkin’s energy\, it could power the planet. \n\nABOUT DAMN TIME\nDana Romanoff \nIn 1983\, Cindell “Dellie” Dale talked her way onto her first commercial river trip through the Grand Canyon. Like many women in the industry at the time\, her place was in the kitchen. But determined to push against the tide of a male-dominated river-running world\, she earned her spot on the oars and became one of the Grand Canyon’s legendary dory guides. Inspired by the trailblazing women before her\, Dale is now proudly passing the oars to a new generation\, declaring\, “It’s about damn time.” \n\nWHITE GOLD\nPeter Brown\, Amon Barker \nFrom the Silverton road gap to the infamous Telluride Trestle\, legendary freeskier Bobby Brown and friends spent the winter filming around the San Juan Mountains. DESCRIPTION:Door time: 6:00\nShow time: 7:00 \nPresented by the Sundance Film Festival and the Boulder International Film Festival\nColorado’s acclaimed poet laureate and spoken word icon Andrea Gibson\, long celebrated for their fearless writing on social justice and LGBTQ+ themes\, passed away on July 14\, 2025. SUMMARY:Saving Our History Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:Door time: 3:30 PM\nShow time: 4:00 PM \nPresented by the Colorado Chautauqua\, Historic Boulder\, Inc.\, and Protect Our Past \nThe Chautauqua Auditorium was the venue for the first motion picture ever shown in Boulder! Join us as we present a one-day film festival on the importance of Saving Our History! \nAre we missing something? Have we become too obsessed with shiny new things? In our quest for the latest and greatest of anything\, are we losing out on everything? \nJoin us for a first-of-its-kind film festival that honors our past and celebrates the champions who are Saving our History! We’ll dive into four captivating documentaries that bring the art of historic preservation and rehabilitation of our cherished past to life. \n2025 Films:\nBoulder Theater film “Save The Face”\n“Save the Face” is a short documentary about the turbulent history of the Boulder Theater and its importance to the people of the city. The newest challenge that the theater faces today is a much needed renovation of its iconic Art Deco facade\, a project championed by local non-profit Historic Boulder\, Inc.\n \n \nLife Rings\n“A poignant film that delves into the significance of preserving not just homes but the stories they hold. Like the rings in a tree\, every layer of a home captures the essence of our lives\, a powerful reminder that our homes are more than just structures; they are the keepers of our most cherished memories and emotions.” \n \nOne Big Home\nGentrification comes in many forms. On the tiny island of Martha’s Vineyard\, where presidents and celebrities vacation\, trophy homes threaten to destroy the island’s unique character. Twelve years in the making\, ONE BIG HOME follows one carpenter’s journey to understand the trend toward giant houses. When he feels complicit in wrecking the place he calls home\, he takes off his tool belt and picks up a camera. Bumping up against angry homeowners and builders who look the other way\, he works with his community and attempts to pass a new bylaw to limit house size. \n \nIf Our Walls Could Talk\nCaptured within the walls of Cape Cod’s historic houses are stories of its people\, their traditions and values\, their entrepreneurial spirits\, their hopes and dreams. \n \nSchedule: \n4:00 pm               Introduction (10 min)\n4:10 pm               Film 1: If Our Walls Could Talk: Discoveries! (26 min)\n4:40 pm               Film 2: Life Rings (27 min)\n5:10 pm               1st Talk Back: Reflection on Films 1 and 2 (35 min)\n5:45 pm               Intermission\n6:10 pm               Film 3: One Big Home (1hr 28min)\n7:40 pm               Film 4: Save the Face (10 min)\n7:50 pm               2nd Talk Back: Reflection on Films 3 and 4 (35 min)\n8:25 pm               End \n\nThe first talk back will include a panel discussion with local experts who will reflect and bring home the importance of authenticity in historic preservation\, the unique attributes of old growth wood (eco-consequences)\, and the thinking behind physically moving historic structures to bring them new life in new locations.\nThe second talk back will include people associated with the two films\, One Big Home and Save the Face. The first film\, while taking place on Martha’s Vineyard\, resonates with recent activity to legislate a limit to the size of “trophy homes” in Boulder County.  The second film covers the necessity to provide resources to repair the classic art deco façade of one of Boulder’s most loved landmarks.\n\n \n*Please note the Hop2Chautauqua shuttles do not operate for this event. Parking is available immediately around Chautauqua Auditorium. \nTICKET PRICES ARE INCLUSIVE OF FEES

SUMMARY:Mountainfilm On Tour - Boulder
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Backpacker’s Pantry\nDoor time: 7:00 \nShow time: 7:30 \nUsing the power of film\, art and ideas\, Mountainfilm inspires audiences to create a better world. Held every Memorial Day weekend\, the Mountainfilm festival brings together a community of filmmakers and change makers\, showcasing documentary films that celebrate adventure\, activism\, social justice\, environment and indomitable spirit. Hosted by Daniel Junge! \n \nFilms:\n \nAbove the Noise \nAdam De Silva \nThe world around us can feel overwhelming and loud. In response\, Maya delves into her practice of skydiving as a means to focus inwards. She gently inspires us to find our own means of grounding ourselves in flow. \n \nDesert Wings \nNathan McBride \nDesert Wings brings the unique sport of paramotoring to light showcasing talented pilots exploring the dramatic landscapes of the American Southwest. \n \nLeaving a Tread \nMaxwell Frank \nAs the popularity of mountain biking grows across Mexico\, riders like Israel Carrillo work to blaze the trail — literally. Carrillo shares the challenges athletes face in a growing sport\, financially and otherwise\, while showing off his hometown of Guanajuato. \n \nObibini \nBenoit Lalande \nObibini is a high-energy dive into Ghanaian women’s joy and liberation through surfing. Since 2013\, the Obibini Surf Club has empowered women to feel welcome at the beach and in the water. \n \nGhost Resorts: Japan \nMichael J Brown & Zeppelin Zeerip \nWith ski lifts no longer spinning and buildings falling into disrepair\, abandoned ski areas are nestled among the snow-drifted peaks of Japan. The country’s massive economic boom in the 1980s fueled a wild demand for skiing and an explosion of new mountain resorts. The financial collapse that followed in 1991 decimated both the Japanese economy and the ski industry. Today\, hundreds of ghost resorts span the mountains as silent witnesses to the pace of change. Yet the deep powder beckons those who seek to experience an unconventional backcountry adventure.  \n \nMr. Cato \nRyan Ross \nMr. Cato is an elementary school teacher and pro BMX flatlander who changes his students’ lives by teaching them how to ride and care for bikes\, as he attempts to bring his sport back from the brink of extinction in the U.S. While overcoming his struggles and vying for a spot in the Summer Olympics\, Mr. Cato uses the two wheels that have given him so much in order to make the world a better place. \n \nThe Draconians \nMaxime Moulin \nSkiers Sam Favret and Nikolaï Schirmer team up in Norway on a ski touring trip of a lifetime. Follow them up and down futuristic lines as they execute their vision as athletes and filmmakers in this thrilling segment from The Draconians. \n \nTime is a Funny Thing \nJeremy Grant \nTime is a Funny Thing is an exploration of time and how doing what we love makes it disappear. In this short film\, professional mountain biker Tyler McCaul looks back on his career through the lens of his older and younger self. \n \nTo Scale: Time \nAlex Gorosh \nOn a dry lakebed in California\, a group of friends attempt to build a scale model of time: a true illustration of cosmic evolution and our place within it. Over miles\, they lay out tiny lights representing important moments in the history of the universe: the Big Bang\, the meteor that killed the dinosaurs and the beginning of human civilization. The result is time represented by distance and the recognition that although we are alive for the briefest moment — in this demonstration\, the width of a hair — our lives are a gift from the universe that we must spend wisely. \n \nRe \nIz La Motte \nTwenty years ago\, Re forged a new path in the outdoor sports community as one of the few women in her field. As an action sports photographer\, she is dedicated to working with and showcasing the strength and individual personalities of female athletes. Re landed the first cover shot of a woman for Backcountry Magazine and the first all-female cover shot for Skiing Magazine. She views her work as a catalyst\, fostering a social shift in the perception of female athletes in popular culture. \n \nLexicon \nAustin Hopkins & Loic Isliker \nA unique group of skiers from around the world come together to celebrate skiing as a catalyst for human connection. As they shred the bottomless pow of Hokkaido\, the transformative power of adventure takes this group from strangers to friends. \nSupported by\n \n \nThere will be no free shuttle service for this event.

SUMMARY:Dreama Team (film screening)
DESCRIPTION:The story of ultra-runner and mom\, Dreama Walton\nDoors: 7:00 \nShowtime: 7:30 \nCome see Dreama Walton’s film\, Dreama Team followed by a post-film Q&A with Dreama Walton. \nWhen you meet Dreama\, in many ways she’s like any other person. Someone you could grab a burger or a beer with. She’s a mom\, co-parenting her daughter. She works as a full-time IT employee. But Dreama has an extraordinary hobby. She’s an ultra runner… and she’s just gotten into America’s biggest ultra marathon: The Western States 100. \nAs she runs the 100 mile race from Olympic Valley\, CA to Auburn\, CA\, the film begins to explore her upbringing and what fuels her: A traumatic childhood. A younger sister that never gave up. A new community that changed the direction of her life. She finds encouragement in unexpected places\, and begins to seek out a new way for herself\, outside of the poor choices of her traditional role models. Knowing that she’s overcome these past experiences\, it gives her strength in the present\, to push toward the infamous 24-hour cutoff. \nThe film explores Dreama’s backstory\, the value of “Struggle” in one’s life and how hardships shape the way that obstacles are perceived. It shows a person deciding to willfully enter into struggle. \nThe effort comes from independent filmmakers Chad Weber and Steve Vanderheide in their first feature-length film. \n“Dreama Team” is an independent production that has been in the works for two years\, and was made possible by the grassroots efforts of countless individuals.

SUMMARY:Celebrate Chautauqua – 125th Anniversary Fundraiser – Reception + Film + Concert
DESCRIPTION:JFK: The Last Speech Film Screening and Fundraiser Honoring the 125th Anniversary of the Colorado Chautauqua\nHelp us care for Chautauqua this milestone year. \nDoors: 4:15 PM \nShowtime: 4:45 PM \nAuditorium concert ticket included.\nABOUT THE FILM: \nIn this era of political tension\, when civic culture is fractured and when the value of the liberal arts is questioned\, a message from 1963 has particular resonance. \n  \nTwenty-seven days before he was assassinated\, President Kennedy came to Amherst College to honor the poet Robert Frost in a speech Stewart Udall called “the most majestic” of Kennedy’s career. He spoke of the relationship of poetry to power and of a view shared with Frost that power must be exercised\, but wisely — tempered by a moral restraint inspired by the arts and a liberal arts education.  And\, he spoke of the obligation of those “given a running start in life” to serve the public interest. \n  \nJFK: The Last Speech communicates the impact of this message through the stories of Amherst alumni and students and reflections by prominent scholars and political observers.  Produced by an award-winning filmmaker\, this film ignites public discourse on enduring values and on our shared responsibility for the public interest.  It is a call to action to rebuild our civic sphere — infused with broad sympathy\, understanding\, and compassion. \n  \nABOUT THE EVENT: \nEnjoy cocktails and appetizers in Chautauqua’s historic Community House and meet the producers of the poignant documentary JFK: The Last Speech prior to the screening of this important film\, which reveals how President Kennedy and poet Robert Frost inspired a generation to serve their country and humanity with their words at Amherst College in 1963. \nThe film will be followed by an orchestral tribute to two great legacies: JFK and the Colorado Chautauqua. The Colorado Musical Festival will perform two world premiere symphonies\, including an interpretation of JFK: The Last Speech\, and a tribute to Chautauqua – Flatiron Escapades: A Celebration of Chautauqua’s 125th Anniversary\, performed in the iconic Chautauqua Auditorium \n  \nThis program is supported with funding from the generous bequest of Betsy Hitchcock.

The way we respond to this risk will have long-term effects on our communities and our forests. \nJoin us for the Boulder Colorado premiere of ELEMENTAL\, a film that invites you to reimagine your relationship with wildfire through the eyes of top scientists and indigenous fire managers who are leading the way toward living with this essential element. \nStay after the movie for a discussion and Q&A session with the fire experts including University of Colorado’s very own Dr. Tania Schoennagel\, who appears in the film. \nAbout ELEMENTAL \nIn the wake of recent fires across the West\, filmmakers Trip Jennings\, Sara Quinn\, and Ralph Bloemers took to the air and the ground to help communities make sense of what is happening – and what we can do to prepare for more fire on the land. Their work led to a deep investigation of wildfire in a hotter\, drier\, more crowded world\, and includes wildfires that burned across millions of acres and destroyed numerous communities. \nFive years in the making\, Elemental is the product of their journey across the United States and into fire affected communities. Produced and edited in Oregon\, Narrated by David Oyelowo (Emmy & Golden Globe Nominee)\, supported by National Geographic and Patagonia. \nPanelists: \nTania Schoennagel has been a wildfire scientist at the University of Colorado-Boulder for almost 20 years. She has examined the interaction of climate\, wildfire and insect outbreaks in western forests\, and assessed the effect of forest management and adaptation of communities to wildfire resilience. Tania has provided testimony to Congress and the Colorado legislature\, her work has been covered by national print and radio outlets\, and she has contributed to documentaries on wildfire and climate change. She worked at the USFS Fire Sciences Lab\, received a Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin\, and attended Dartmouth College. \n \n  \nRodrigo Moraga \nPrincipal Technology Architect- Precisely Software Solutions (2021-Present). \nFormer CEO\, Anchor Point Group LLC. Wildfire Consulting. (1999-2021). \nRod has 30+ years of experience in Natural Resource Management focusing on combining advanced fire behavior modeling and sound forest management practices to enhance ecosystem health\, while mitigating the Wildland-Urban Interface fire threat. \nHe is currently the Chairperson of the Colorado Prescribed Fire Council.  He serves on the Boulder County Type 3 Team as Operations Chief and on the Rocky Mountain Critical Incident Management Team as a Fire Behavior Analyst.  He is also a volunteer firefighter with the Lefthand Fire Protection District. \n \n  \nRalph Bloemers \nFor nearly two decades\, Ralph has advised community-based conservation groups\, recreation clubs and citizens throughout the Pacific Northwest on the conservation of our forests\, including burned landscapes. Over the past five years he has investigated the causes of fires\, documented wildlife in burned landscapes\, volunteers his time to rebuild trails in fire burned areas and spent time in these forests with firefighters\, expert scientists and ecologists. Ralph has helped the public\, decision makers and students confront the dominant cultural beliefs about fires\, and understand the paradoxes that mark our relationship with it. \n \n \nThis program is supported with funding from the generous bequest of Betsy Hitchcock.

SUMMARY:Mountainfilm On Tour - Boulder
DESCRIPTION:Presented by KGNU & Backpacker’s Pantry\n \nDoor Time: 7:00 PM\nShowtime: 7:30 PM \nRuntime: 2 Hours and 17 Minutes \nhttps://www.chautauqua.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/mountainfilm_teaser_2022-23-360p.mp4\n  \nAbout Mountainfilm:\nFounded in 1979\, Mountainfilm is one of America’s longest-running film festivals. The annual festival is held every Memorial Day weekend in Telluride\, CO. Mountainfilm is a dynamic nonprofit organization and festival that celebrates stories of indomitable spirit and aims to inspire audiences through film\, art and ideas. \nMountainfilm on Tour in Boulder will feature a collection of culturally rich\, adventure-packed and engaging documentary short films that align with Mountainfilm’s mission to use the power of film\, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world. Mountainfilm presenter\, Becca Droz\, will guide the audience through the program providing insight on the films\, filmmakers and subjects. Becca Droz is a local rock climber\, climbing coach and guide. She sees climbing as a tool for developing our relationship with self\, other people and nature. \n  \nDescription of films: \nI AM SALMON\nWhit Hassett \nConnecting humanity with salmon and the sea through the subtle art of poetry and Gyotaku (fish rubbing)\, Duncan Berry shares his experience as a longtime environmentalist and former captain of a salmon troller. In adopting the perspective of this transcendent fish\, the beauty and power of the Oregon coast becomes the canvas through which the evolution of the salmon is illustrated. \n \n  \nAMERICAN SCAR\nDaniel Lambroso \nWhen wedding photographer John Kurc decided to spend a few days between assignments exploring the borderlands of southwest Arizona\, he had no idea he would spend the next eight months documenting the devastation of the desert ecosystem created by the construction of Trump’s border wall. In the blitz to build the barrier as fast as possible\, the administration ignored 47 laws that protect bears\, deer\, jaguars and javelina roaming the mountains in both the U.S. and Mexico. In addition to being a failed re-election campaign prop and racist monument\, the wall also inhibits wildlife migration\, putting 70 vulnerable plant and animal species at risk. \n \nFINDING HETCH HETCHY\nJames Q Martin\, Chris Burkard \nWhen the O’Shaughnessy Dam was constructed in 1923\, the Hetch Hetchy Valley in Yosemite National Park became nearly inaccessible to visitors. It has since become the subject of great environmental controversy. Eager to explore this wild and largely unvisited corner of Yosemite\, veteran climbers Timmy O’Neill and Lucho Rivera set out to experience Hetch Hetchy firsthand\, scaling its granite walls and advocating for its restoration. \n \nWOOD HOOD\nAlex Cullen \nDeVaughn is a 15-year-old kid from New York City who loves skateboarding and craves a “quiet place” to escape the chaos of his home\, the city\, and kids that steal from him. The film follows DeVaughn on a weekend-long group camping trip with Camping to Connect\, a BIPOC-led mentorship program that teaches leadership\, brotherhood\, and inclusion in the outdoors. One leader states\, “these kinds of conversations are rare for men that look like us\,” and as the film weaves between the city and the woods\, a place that is unfamiliar and historically inaccessible to these kids\, we witness the joy and growth that is possible when kids have an opportunity to find that “quiet place.” \n \nFLOW (WITH SAM FAVRET)\nMaxime Moulin \nSkier Sam Favret embarks on an adventure of epic proportions\, traversing the slopes of a closed ski resort on a majestic bluebird day. Moulin takes us on a cinematic aerial and symphonic journey as we are enveloped in powerful skiing and the complete unreality of such a serene landscape. \n \nLOON\nJason Whalen\, Chris Zucker \nWhen hiking the Appalachian Trail\, thru-hikers often choose a trail name that says something about their home or their history. Mike Freed\, now in his 80s\, chose the name Loon as a symbol of the spirit of the wild\, interconnected lakes of his Minnesota homeland. The Appalachian Trail is also where Loon had a revelation about what course of action to take with his 2\,000-acre expanse of unfragmented land in the pristine Boundary Waters. \n \nECO-HACK!\nJoshua Izenberg\, Brett Marty \nDue to increased human activity\, desert biologist Tim Shields has been watching the tortoise population of the Mojave desert decline since the 1990s. Rather than continue to sit back and let nature take its course\, Shields combats the depressing nature of conservation biology by accessing its antithesis\, modern engineering. Through the usage of specialized drones\, desert rovers\, laser cannons and fake exploding tortoise shells\, Shields and his colleagues take what control they can over the ecological levers in play to save the tortoise population. Akin to a cathedral builder laying bricks\, Shields may never get to see the true effects of his work\, but he does not let that deter him in his endeavors. \n \nTHE OCEAN SOLUTION\nDarcy Hennessey Turenne \nBren Smith isn’t just redefining ocean farming\, he’s literally turning it upside down. After experiencing a string of pitfalls in conventional fishing\, Smith decided to reimagine the future of aquatic farming by asking the ocean\, “what should our relationship be?” He found his answer and returned to the sea with a new method of restorative ocean farming that produces a sustainable food source\, restores the ocean\, fights the climate crisis and mimics nature’s penchant for biodiversity. \n \nSTORIES OF YOU AND I\nJohn Davies \nStarring Academy Award-nominated Jonathan Pryce\, Stories of You and I is a series of love letters to the Earth and a plea for environmental justice. What feels like universal memories of moments with the natural world\, are director John Davies’ recollections of a lifetime spent in love with nature. Alongside Davies’ true accounts and personal anguish over the environmental crisis are striking images of the wild that emphasize what is at stake. \n \nPOWDER SNOW HOKKAIDO\nGeorge Knowles \nThe essence of Hokkaido skiing is as pure and unique as each snowflake that falls on this Japanese Island. \n \nEvent image by Melissa Plantz.

SUMMARY:"This Is [Not] Who We Are" featuring Directors Katrina Miller and Beret Strong
DESCRIPTION:Door Time: 6:30 PMShowtime: 7:00 PM \nPresented in partnership with Museum Of Boulder\, KUNC\, Colorado Sound and Historic Boulder \nBoulder\, Colorado\, prides itself on being beautiful\, welcoming\, and inclusive. However\, in 2019\, racially-charged and dangerous policing involving a Black university student made national news. The documentary film\, This Is [Not] Who We Are\, explores the gap between Boulder’s self-image and the more complex lived experiences—both historical and contemporary—of its Black citizens. \nBlack people have lived in Boulder continuously for nearly 150 years\, but their history is not well known. Black families faced discrimination in housing\, employment\, education\, health care\, criminal justice\, and social activities. By the 1920’s\, Boulder had become a rallying point for the Ku Klux Klan. In the 1970s employment and housing opened up\, but many problems remain. Although the particulars of Boulder’s history are unique\, its social trajectory into the 21st century is nevertheless emblematic of many cities across the country that struggle to reconcile their liberal politics with the reality of their communities. \nThis is [Not] Who We Are braids the lived experiences of Black characters ranging in age from 12 to 78. Some stories are searing\, while others are hopeful. The film seeks to open a space for dialogue among Boulderites and about cities like Boulder\, overwhelmingly white\, wealthy\, and conflicted about issues of diversity\, inclusion\, and equity. Is a more economically and racially diverse future possible\, both in Boulder and in cities like it across America? \nPlease join us for a special evening of film\, song\, poetry\, and a post-screening panel discussion featuring directors Katrina Miller and Beret Strong. \n*All tickets subject to service fees

SUMMARY:Mountainfilm on Tour – Boulder
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Backpacker’s Pantry\n \nTo keep the music playing during this unpredictable time\, we are requiring all patrons and staff to wear a mask while attending events at Chautauqua. To read more\, click here. \nDoor Time: 6:30 PM\nShowtime: 7:30 PM \nRuntime: 1 hour 41 minutes \n \nAbout Mountainfilm on Tour \nAfter the festival\, Mountainfilm on Tour hits the road\, sharing the year’s most inspiring short films with communities around the world. Mountainfilm on Tour shows are hosted by a wide array of organizations\, including outdoor retailers\, schools and universities\, corporations\, environmental groups\, theaters\, local governments and individuals\, all using it as an opportunity to create awareness and engage with their communities. Mountainfilm has been on tour since 1999 — it’s their way of extending the festival’s reach and delivering inspiring content to global audiences. \nThis event will be hosted by Roam\, the premiere adventure club. To learn more about Roam\, visit their website HERE. \n*All tickets subject to service fees \nThe playlist has been specially curated to feature this year’s best films on adventure\, resilience\, and the power of connections.\n  \nAll Jokes Aside\nRC Cone\nEeland Stribling is a wildlife biologist\, stand-up comedian and fly fisherman who uses @blacksteveirwin as an Instagram handle. All his interests and talents merge in the great outdoors where he comes up with some apropos stand-up comedy. Part stand-up routine and part documentary\, this film is punctuated by the synchronicity of protecting Bristol Bay and recognizing Black Lives Matter. Joining Stribling on the riverbanks and in the water feels like a special chance to hang out with an entertaining fishing buddy. \nBorn From Junk\nMike Horn\, Galin Foley\nPerhaps it is unsurprising that the sport\, industry and obsession of mountain biking was at least partially invented by mountain town pioneers riding “klunker” bikes down mountain passes between Crested Butte and Aspen. The sports’ inventors had no clue — they were\, one recalls\, “just a bunch of outlaws with too much time on our hands and a couple million acres of wild country to explore.” Tinkering with klunkers led to bike innovations; impromptu partying turned into organized events; cow paths were linked together into single track networks. Filmmakers Mike Horn and Galin Foley intercut archival footage\, interviews with Crested Butte old-timers and reenactments to tell the story of the Butte’s Grubstake Gang and the outdoor adventure sport they helped launch. \nMotherload\nZoya Lynch\nHere’s a loving tribute to all of the indefatigable ski moms who somehow manage gear and tears\, not to mention the stresses of survival and the high toll exacted on marriages in ski country. It all pays off when skis are finally attached to little feet and the family achieves grace\, gliding together downhill. \nSnowy\nKaitlyn Schwalje\, Alexander Wolf Lewis\nThere is an opportunity for redemption in every family\, even if one of your family members has been exiled to the basement for a couple of decades. Snowy is a box turtle living in a small tank in Uncle Larry’s basement\, which begs the question: Is mere survival proof that a pet is thriving? As we try to guess what Snowy might be feeling\, with help from a veterinarian\, a pet psychic and an expert in reptile cognition\, Uncle Larry’s perspective begins to evolve as he starts seeing Snowy as more than just a chore. \nYou And The Thing That You Love\nNicholas Maher\nNick Mullins was a teenage skate punk on the brink of turning pro when a benign-seeming accident led to catastrophic illness. He survived\, but went blind in the process. And just like that\, he lost everything. This is the incredible story of how he fought like hell to get it back. \nThe Captain\nGreg Kohs\nAt 27 years old\, Sadie Samuels is the youngest and only female lobster boat captain in the Rockport\, Maine harbor. Despite the long hours and manual labor of hauling traps\, Samuels is in love — obsessed even — with what she calls the most beautiful\, magical place on the planet. Her love for lobster fishing was imparted early in her childhood by her dad Matt\, who has been her mentor and inspiration since she was a little girl in yellow fishing boots. \nMade in the Mitten\nZeppelin Zeerip\nWhile it’s most often thought of as a mountain sport\, modern-day snowboarding began on the shores of Lake Michigan. Housebound in a snowstorm\, and in need of an activity to get his kids outside\, Sherman Poppn fastened two of his daughter’s skis together and stood sideways on the hill in his backyard. And with that\, the snurfer was born\, creating a magical way to surf the snow. The snowboard industry has come a long way since then\, but Made in the Mitten is an homage to the sport’s original roots: the pure joy of riding a skinny piece of wood in the snowy backyards of the Midwest. \nTen Thousand Bolts\nDuncan Sullivan\, Alex Levin\, Ashley Benzwie\nToni Arbones has always followed his passion — bolting climbing routes to the top of a remote and winding six-kilometer road in Siurana\, Spain\, where he built his paradise. The limestone cliffs of the world-renowned climbing area now boast 1\,700 routes thanks to the relentless work of Arbones’ drill and glue gun. Arbones is a self-proclaimed bolting addict\, who has raised the painstaking task to an art form. \nSibling Rivalry\nAurélie Slegers\nSparks fly and a showdown unfolds between siblings and professional mountain bikers Becky and Ryan Gardner on the trails of Telluride. This film reminds us that any victory\, no matter how minor\, is that much sweeter when your opponent is your brother or sister.
